Sew Cozy: Make a Set of Winter Pajamas

Saturday, January 15, 2022 – 12:00pm to 4:00pm

SPECIAL ONE-TIME, HALF-OFF RATE!
(Future classes will be $70)

In this class you will learn a variety of garment skills by creating a set of pajamas. Jen will walk the class through a step-by-step process from choosing the correct size based on measurements to finishing touches.

Participants should be familiar with sewing machine operations, but no significant skill is required. All materials will be provided. However, if you have a fabric that you would like to use you are welcome to bring that.

Bridgeport Mill Training

Sunday, January 16, 2022 – 10:00am to 5:00pm

Hands-on learning of the fundamentals of safe and practical use of a Bridgeport Milling Machine.

Annual MakeHaven Member Meeting (online)

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 – 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Grab a snack and join us online to look back on the year we made at MakeHaven in 2021.

The Annual Member meeting is an opportunity to connect with other members and the board of directors.

Staff and Board will present an overview of the state of MakeHaven and outline future plans. A Q&A provides members an opportunity to suggest ideas and feedback on the direction of the organization. We hope all members will join us online!

Session will be conducted in an online tool that enables organic socializing (details to follow when you register)

Intro to Inkscape

Thursday, January 20, 2022 – 6:00pm to 7:00pm

In this class for Inkscape newbies, learn to build and edit an SVG using the free software, Inkscape. SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files are used for our laser cutters, are the base files for the vinyl cutter, and have many other applications.

VCarve for CNC

Wednesday, January 26, 2022 – 6:00pm to 9:00pm

VCarve Pro is a powerful but intuitive software for creating and cutting parts on a CNC Router. VCarve Pro gives you the power to produce complex 2D patterns with profile, pocket, drill and inlay toolpaths, plus gives you the ability to create designs with v-carving textures as well as import and machine unlimited Vectric 3D clipart or single model files.

In this class you will learn the basics of VCarve by designing a project that includes shapes, text, and imported bitmaps.

Once the design is completed you will learn how to assign tool paths and review which bits and cutting speeds to use. In addition you will learn some tips/tricks which include keyhole path, double sided milling and texturing.

After the day of the class, Phil will be available (within reason) to answer questions and assist with issues if they arise as you work on your next project.

Note: Please be aware that the class will take place in the Learning Room and focus on the software side of a CNC. Badging for the Shapeoko or other CNC are separate.

Covid Vax Facts: Info and Q&A Session

Have questions about the vaccine? Wondering just what’s different about Omnicron? We know, it’s hard to keep up sometimes.

Join Paige Brown from Community Health Center Association of Connecticut for an informational session on Covid and the vaccine. This will be a roughly 20 minute presentation with the opportunity for Q&A afterwards.

Knife-Making with Darryl

Learn to make your own knife in this all-day workshop with MakeHaven facilitator Darryl. All materials included, no experience needed.

Make a Cutting Board

Sunday, February 27, 2022 – 10:00am to 4:00pm

In this introductory class, you’ll learn to use the planer, table saw, chop saw, and sander, then finish your cutting board with mineral oil. It’s a great opportunity for those looking to get started in the wood shop but who may feel initially intimidated, or for those who prefer directed learning.
